On home soil, Kohli scored 85 vs. Australia in Chennai on 8 October, 55 not out vs. Afghanistan in Delhi on 11 October, 16 vs. Pakistan in Ahmedabad on 14 October, 103 not out vs. Bangladesh in Pune on 19 October, 95 vs. New Zealand in Dharamsala on 22 October, a nine-ball duck vs. England in Lucknow on 29 October, 88 vs. Sri Lanka in Mumbai on 2 November, 101 not out vs. South Africa in Kolkata on 5 November, 51 vs. the Netherlands in Bengaluru on 12 November, 117 in the first semi-final vs. New Zealand in Mumbai on 15 November, and 54 in the final vs. Australia at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on 19 November.

Kohli’s 117 in semi-final, his fifth World Cup century, not only took him past Tendulkar’s tally of runs at the 2003 World Cup but was also his landmark 50th One-Day International (ODI) century, eclipsing Tendulkar’s 49 ODI tons in 1989–2012.

Kohli averaged 95.62 runs per innings at the 2023 Cricket World Cup, comfortably out-scoring teammate Rohit Sharma (597 runs in 11 innings; average 54.27) and South Africa’s Quinton de Kock (594 runs in 10 innings; average 59.40).
