Before switching to Formula One, Alexander Wurz (Austria, b. 15 February 1974) cut his teeth in the world’s oldest and most prestigious endurance race: the 24 Hours of Le Mans. On 15–16 June 1996, driving for Joest Racing (Germany), he became the French event’s youngest-ever winner, aged just 22 years 123 days.
