On 3 October 2009, the 2.06-km (6,767-ft, or 1.28-mile) Poughkeepsie Bridge (also known as the Walkway Over the Hudson State National Park) in New York, USA, was re-opened to the public as the world’s longest pedestrian bridge.

Hornibrook Bridge across Bramble Bay in Queensland, Australia, was longer but demolition started in the summer of 2010.
