The Rim of the Pacific Exercise is an annual international maritime exercise which was first held in 1971. Its main participants are the USA, Canada and Australia, with the UK, Chile, Peru, Japan and South Korea participating regularly. Although the scale of the exercise varies annually, the US component can include up to 20,000 personnel and a full carrier battle group plus support ships.
