The world's largest dish radio telescope is the partially-steerable ionospheric assembly built over a natural bowl at Arecibo, Puerto Rico, completed in November 1963. The dish has a diameter of 305 m (1000 ft) and covers 7.48 ha (18.5 acres), an area equivalent to roughly 14 American football fields.
