Runners in the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival can now become Guinness World Records title holders with new partnership

Ever wanted to be a Guinness World Records title holder? Well now you're in with a running shot. Blackmores Sydney Running Festival and Guinness World Records have today announced a partnership for the 2016 event taking place on Sunday 18th September, through Sydney city and along the harbour.

Following suit from Guinness World Records' successful nine year venture with the London Marathon, the new partnership means costumed runners in the Sydney event can be certified with a Guinness World Records title when they finish the course.

It's the first time the global authority on record breaking has partnered with an Australian marathon and only the second time internationally after the London Marathon. The 2016 London Marathon saw 31 Guinness World Records titles broken. These include:

• Fastest marathon dressed in a full body dinosaur outfit achieved by Ben Evans with a time of 3:08.34 and
• Fastest marathon dressed as a book character (female) run by Naomi Flanagan who finished the race at 3:08.34 dressed as Tinkerbelle.

Runners wanting to take part in the marathon course of the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival and add something different to their experience or raise money for charity should take up the challenge of attempting a Guinness World Records title.
Wayne Larden, Event Director said, "We're really excited to be the first international marathon outside of London to be an Official Partner with Guinness World Records.

"With a brand new flatter and faster marathon course, the addition of Guinness World Records challenges will add tremendous colour to the event making it even more spectacular for runners and spectators alike. The Blackmores Sydney Running Festival is also a huge fundraising event with over $15 million raised for local charities over the years. Guinness World Records participation has proven to increase fundraising so it is a major boost to local charities."

Nadine Causey, Senior VP APAC Guinness World Records said, "We've enjoyed years of success with the London Marathon. Many exciting Guinness World Records titles have been set, hundreds of eye-catching costumes have been worn and thousands of dollars has been raised for charity. We're thrilled to be replicating this with the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival. It's one of the world's leading running events and we're looking forward to making it a record-breaking one in 2016!
