A huge herd of woolly record breakers descended on Macusani in Peru earlier this month to take the title for the Largest parade of alpacas.

Lined up for the attempt wearing their shiniest ribbons, 460 well-groomed alpacas prepared for their 100-meter debut through the town which is the capital of the province Carabaya.

Several types of the animal could be seen led by their owners, some brown, others white - but all were characteristically fluffy.

The attempt was organised the Municipalidad Provincial de Carabaya who had wanted to break the record to order to highlight that the region is known accross the country as the quintessential town for alpacas in Peru.

Though the city has over 20,000 alpacas within its borders, event organizers selected the participants’ alpacas based on some quality standards, which was used to define them for the purpose of the record.

All alpacas were at least one year old and only two species of alpacas participated of the attempt: Huacaya and Suri.
