More than 4,000 schoolchildren have come together in honour of the United Arab Emirates' (UAE) 46th National Day by setting a new Guinness World Records title for the Largest human image of a national waving flag.

Students from GEMS Cambridge International School in Abu Dhabi, and GEMS United Indian School were all dressed in the colours of the UAE's national flag and helped create an image of it waving.

In total 4,130 people took part in the record attempt to help celebrate the country's National Day (which is on Saturday 2 December) which commemorates the union of the seven emirates; Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah.

Dino Varkey, Chief Executive Officer at GEMS Education said: “Today, after 46 years, the UAE is one of the most advanced and sought-after countries across the globe. By creating the world's largest human waving national flag we wanted to pay a tribute to the UAE and the achievements of our visionary leaders."

"Celebrating this occasion is a proud tradition we will continue at GEMS Education and I would like to thank all the students, teachers and parents who have supported the event with such great enthusiasm."

Previously in 2016, GEMS students paid tribute to the UAE for National Day by creating the Largest transforming human image (which has since been surpassed).
