To celebrate the win of their ambassador Chris Froome in the year's Tour de France, Sky UK organised an employee engagement event at which they would attempt a mass participation record title for the Most people wearing yellow cycling jerseys.
A total of 270 employees went to the Sky Studios in Osterley, West London, UK – significantly bettering the 250 people that they needed to set the record – with each participant was given a yellow jersey to wear (and take home afterwards).
Traditionally called the maillot jaune in French, a yellow jersey is worn by the rider with the lowest cumulative time for the distance completed so far during the Tour de France.
The holder of the yellow jersey at the finish in Paris is crowned the overall winner of the annual race.
An official Guinness World Records adjudicator was on hand to count the brightly coloured employees and verify the successful record attempt – another win for Team Sky.
Speaking of their achievement, Sky said, “We wanted to give employees the opportunity to show their support for Team Sky and engage with the final stages of the team’s incredible Tour de France victory in a way that would really make an impact. Inviting employees to unite in their support for Team Sky and break a world record is a fantastic achievement.”
