We asked star of Guinness World Records 2018 Edition and owner of the world’s Longest fingernails on a pair of hands (female), Ayanna Williams, to share her top tips on how to grow beautiful long nails.

1. Have patience…

It takes time to grow long nails, so you must be patient. Ayanna has been nurturing hers for over 20 years and they now have a combined total length of 576.4 cm (18 ft 10.9 in)!

2. Endurance…

There are many challenges associated with growing record-breaking talons – such as learning how to perform household chores, like washing dishes, without breaking them.

“It takes me longer to do anything than it would take other people, because of the length of my nails,” says Ayanna.

3. …And strength

“Your personality has to be strong because you’re going to have a lot of people hatin’ on you – they’re not going to understand.”

4. Use good quality nail polish

“Nothing but the best for my nails!” says Ayanna.

The Texan nail technician uses 2-3 whole bottles of nail polish when giving herself a manicure, and it can take up to 20 hours.

She recommends sticking to lighter colours, as dark shades can stain the fingernails.

5. Use a nail hardener

This will help keep the nails clean, strong and prevent breakages.

Lee Redmond and Melvin Boothe (both USA) hold the female and male records for the longest fingernails on a pair of hands ever

6. Stay out of crowds

Long, delicate nails and big crowds of people don’t mix well – Ayanna avoids busy areas at all times!

7. Glue broken nails back together

Don’t panic if you break a fingernail, you can use nail glue to reattach the broken part.

8. Love your nails!

“Don’t let anybody discourage you from being who you are.” - We couldn’t have put it better ourselves.
