Egyptian singer Amr Diab incredible 30-year long career has been recognised by Guinness World Records after the star was this week awarded the title for Most World Music Awards for Best Selling Middle Eastern Artist.
 
The 55-year-old has a huge following across the Middle East and is often referred to as the "Father of Mediterranean Music", a style that blends Western and Egyptian rhythms.
 
Huge sales of his albums have seen Amr earned the Best Selling Middle Eastern Artist award four times at the Most World Music Awards, starting with his 1996 album for Nour El Ain, 2001 for album Akter Wahed, 2007 album El Lillady, with his most recent win coming off the back of his 2013 album El Leila. 
 
At the 2014 World Music Awards, Diab was also awarded Best Egyptian Artist, Best Male Arab Artist and World's Best Arab Male Artist Voted Online. 
 
After earning his impressive GWR title, adjudicator Ahmed Gabr presented him with the certificate at his office in Cairo.
 
There Diab talked about this triumph and what being a Guinness World Records title holder meant to him.
 
“I would like to first thank my fans for making this possible, I couldn’t have reached here without their support,” said Diab, “It’s such an honour to represent my country, Egypt, by one of the world’s most accredited organisations.”

On top of his many World Music Awards, the Cairo-native became the first artist from the MENA region to win YouTube’s Golden Play Button in 2015, an award that recognises accounts on the video streaming platform that have over one million subscribers. 
 
Diab has also received lifetime achievement award at the Big Apple Music Awards in 2009. 
 
Although he's seemed to have done it all, the Mediterranean singer has not put a cap on his success. 
 
He has topped the iTunes Egypt chart for over 1000 Days with his last four albums, while his “ Shoft Al-Ayam” Album that was ranked as number 1 in the world genre.
 
To support the release of Amr's most recent album “Ahla W Ahla” - his 27th - the star played three huge summer concerts with more than 50,000 fans in attendance. 
 
A global icon in the world music industry, Amr is now proud owner of a well-deserved Guinness World Records title.
