The Japanese manga author Eiichiro Oda has made comic book history by attaining a Guinness World Record title for having the Most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author.

His widely popular comic titled One Piece was first serialised in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine (Shueisha) in Japan, back in December 1997.

In the space of less than two decades, the series has accumulated an incredibly loyal following and has gone on to sell an incredible 320,866,000 units, with a substantial 77 volumes of the comic book released over that period.

Enjoyed by people of all ages, One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy who explores the ocean with his crew of pirates in search of the world's ultimate treasure known as "One Piece" in order to become the next Pirate King.

To add to Oda’s success, One Piece also holds a record for the Most copies published for the same manga series.

Speaking following an official Guinness World Records certificate presentation, Oda said, “Thank you for the Guinness World Records recognition … I will never forget the gratitude I feel toward the pioneers and supporters of the manga world, as well as my readers, and would like to continue creating work that wouldn’t shame this record.”

Monkey is still searching for treasure but his creator has found his prize after writing his way to two world records.
