Kreissparkasse Ludwigsburg harnessed the power of record breaking in a novel way yesterday as they looked to raise awareness of the importance of saving money among youngsters.

Measuring an impressive is 8.03 m (26 ft 4.3 in) long and 5.58 m (18 ft 3.7 in) tall, the German savings bank unveiled the world’s largest piggy bank. 

Largest Piggy bank 2Weighing a hefty 7 tonnes, the super-sized savings ornament is made of fiberglass and reinforced plastic.

During verification of the record, money was inserted into the piggy bank using a small crane.

Inside the construction are two floors that provide enough space for an exhibition about the history, development and the importance of money.

Keeping things fun, the exhibition can be exited via a slide. 

Largest Piggy bank 3Open until October 31st at the Kreissparkasse in Ludwigsburg, on Schillerplatz, for 1€ visitors to the record-breaking piggy bank will be able to strike their own commemorative world record coin as well as donate money to charity.

Kreissparkasse Ludwigsburg’s creation beats the previous largest piggy bank record set by Zhong Xing Shenyang Commercial Building (Group) Co in China in 2007, who created a golden piggy bank which measured 5.6 m (18 ft 4 in) long, 3.96 m (12 ft 11 in) tall.
