Guinness World Records can today confirm that Furious 7 has set the record for Fastest time for a movie to gross $1 billion at the global box office.
 
Starring Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker, the latest film in the Fast and Furious franchise took a mere 17 days to break the $1 billion barrier, quickly surpassing previous record holder Avatar who reached the mark in 19 days. 
 
Furious 7 has earned an estimated $735.2 million overseas in 17 days and an estimated $273.7 million in North America in 15 days. The movie was released on April 1, 2015 with its North American premiere on April 3, 2015.

The blockbuster franchise also holds the record for Highest grossing car chase movie of all time, with its release of Fast and Furious 5 in 2011, which grossed $626 million worldwide by August 11, 2011.
