In Fayetteville, North Carolina, yarn company Caron® has entered into the Christmas spirit by overseeing the creation of major cooperative knitting effort setting a new Guinness World Records title for the Largest knit/crochet stocking.
The stocking was created from over 1,200 knitted and crocheted blankets, sent by people from all of the United States, four Canadian provinces and Ireland.
The blankets were created with Caron United yarn. Caron used this record attempt as an opportunity to give back, by donating 15 cents from each yarn package purchase to Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation and also by donating pieces of the disassembled stocking to hospitals.
Guinness World Records adjudicator Kim Partrick who was present at the event said: “This stocking is incredible not only because of its record breaking size, but also due to the fact that it is truly the culmination of over 1,200 individual works of art from people who donated their time and talents to contributing a blanket.”
The stocking’s measurements were 712.54 m² (7,669.69 ft²) - which would certainly give Santa a challenge to fill with toys and treats!
