Santé! Congratulations to Saveurs du Voyage magazine whose record for the Largest Cork Mosaic has been voted our Fan Choice record of the year by visitors to the Guinness World Records website.

2014's winner was inspired by the Aquitaine region of France. The impressive cork mosaic formed into the shape of a wine barrel was presented to the public in L'Edplanade des Quinconces town square in Bordeaux on June 14 2014, during the annual Bordeaux Wine Festival.

LARGEST CORK MOSAIC

Measuring 154.80 m² (1,666 ft² 36 in²) and using an incredible 285,000 corks mounted on 114 planks of wood, the mosaic was built by volunteers organised by Saveurs du Voyages magazine. The design was sketched by Russian artists Elvira Gazizova and Sergey Sidorov.

LARGEST CORK MOSAIC 2 Guinness World Records

Such is the nature of record-breaking, just months after the attempt in France the record was broken by Albanian artist Saimir Strati at Festival Sete Sois Sete Luas in Portugal

Nevertheless, Saveurs du Voyage's achievement beat several competitors in the final round, with the corking creation coming out tops to become our overall winner for 2014.

At the end of the year, each of the weekly winners are placed in a knockout-style reader vote-off to determine what the Guinness World Records universe's favourite record of the past 12 months has been.
