Lee De Villiers and Simon Clark of the UK sure know a thing or two about outlasting the competition. First, they broke the record for the longest barbecue marathon by a team, at 29 hr 1 min. Then, they used that record to earn the most votes in our polling window over the other four competitors in last week's Fan Choice.
Lee and Simon had angled for a record since childhood, and now will be entered into our competition for fan record of the year.
Every Friday here, we pick five records recently approved by our expert Records Management Team. We'll give you a little background on each and then ask you to vote for your favorite. The winners from each week, like Lee and Simon of The Old Sergeant Pub, will be entered into an end-of-year bracket to determine the Fan Choice record of the year.
This week's list of nominees vying for your vote includes the oldest female hockey player and largest cork mosaic, but first, pull!
FASTEST 25 TARGETS CLAY PIGEON SHOOTING
Record: 31.98 seconds
Holder: Drennan Kenderdine (UK)
Location: Rugby & District Trap Club, Rugby, Warwickshire, UK
That's not all: Drennan made this attempt for a variety of reasons, including the promotion of shooting as safe, enjoyable pastime and to promote British shooting materials and manufacturing. Drennan used a UGB 25 Xcel Beretta to break the previous record by nearly 6 seconds.
OLDEST FEMALE HOCKEY PLAYER
Record: 79 years 311 days
Holder: Marie Larsen (Australia)
Location: Canberra, ACT, Australia
That's not all: To our American readers, this is of course the oldest female field hockey player. Marire's record-breaking match came playing for Tuggeranong Vikings Women's Hockey Club against Australian National University Team in the Hockey ACT Women's State League 5 Competition this summer. Marie continues to play regularly for her team in the outdoor season, and also plays during the indoor season, in addition to serving as the umpire for her club's under-11s girl's team.
Record: 10 m (32 ft 9.7 in) long and 4.2 m (13 ft 3.35 in) wide at the base
Holder: Ayesha Siddequa (India)
Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates
That's not all: An abaya is a loose, cloak-like dress worn by many women in the Muslim world. Ayesha created this abaya as an initiative to promote art studio Mawaheb, which works with special needs adults in Dubai. The abaya featured paintings created by these artists throughout the garment.
LARGEST CORK MOSAIC (also pictured above)
Record: 154.80 m² (1,666 ft² 36 in²)
Holders: Magazine Saveurs du Voyage, published by SemFor (France)
Location: Bordeaux, France
That's not all: The mosaic was inspired by the first issue of the magazine from SemFor, dedicated to the Aquitaine region. The mosaic measured 17.1 m (56 ft 1 in) by 9 m (29 ft 6 in) long and used 285,000 corks!
MOST PLAYERS IN A RINGETTE EXHIBITION MATCH
Holders: Calgary NW Ringette (Canada)
Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada
That's not all: Ringette is a sport popular in Canada that's similar to ice hockey, but with a ring instead of a puck and slightly other different equipment, like the sticks. This match lasted 5 hr 43 min with the White team defeating the Black team, 51 to 39. The record attempt was to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the sport's invention.
And those are your nominees; time now to cast your vote!
