Hot off the presses! French magazine publisher SemFor fended off all the competition in last week's Fan Choice, winning our closest vote in 2 months, by a margin of less than 7 percent. Their record for the largest cork mosaic - created to celebrate the first edition of new periodical Magazine Saveurs du Voyage - clocked in at 154.80 m² (1,666 ft² 36 in²) .

SemFor's achievement will now be entered into our competition for Fan Choice record of the year as we move closer to the end of 2014.

Every Friday here, we pick five records recently approved by our expert Records Management Team. We'll give you a little background on each and then ask you to vote for your favorite. The winners from each week, like SemFor, will be entered into an end-of-year bracket to determine the Fan Choice record of the year.

Record: 766

Holder: Mt Hood Mustangs and Fords Club (USA)

Location: Woodburn Dragstrip in Woodburn, Oregon, USA

That's not all: The club organized the parade to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic American muscle car, and to bring the record back to the U.S., after it had been broken in Canada six years earlier. The parade route covered 9.5 mi (15.3 km) and included cars from as far away as Texas and Alaska.

MOST CONSECUTIVE BICYCLE BACKWHEEL POGO HOPS

Back wheel pogo.jpg

Record: 309

Holder: Orban Barra Gabor (Romania)

Location: Mihai Viteazul Square in Sfantu Gheorghe, Romania

That's not all: Gabor, a professional rider, saw a number of world records broken on bikes by Nitro Circus' Jim DeChamp in years past and decided to push his own limits. After targeting a half dozen records he thought he could attempt, Orban focused his training on two in particular: this one (in which he hopped off the ground repeatedly on his back wheel) and the longest distance riding backwards free wheel, which he broke on the same day at 27.58 m (90 ft 5.82 in).

GREATEST DISTANCE KARTING INDOORS IN 24 HOURS

Karting 24 hrs.JPG

Record: 682.58 km (424.14 mi)

Holder: Ryan Dyer (USA)

Location: Maine Indoor Karting in Scarborough, Maine, USA

That's not all: Inspired after reading about the previous record set in this attempt and how it raised money for charity, Ryan and Maine Indoor Karting made their own successful attempt and raised $2,000 along the way for the Maine chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. Dyer completed 2,666 laps of the nine-turn indoor track to accumulate his record distance.

MOST FIXED-WING AIRCRAFT FLOWN IN 24 HOURS

Record: 43

Holders: Jim Greenshields (UK)

Location: Dunkeswell Aerodrome in Honiton, Devon, UK

That's not all: With a background in aviation and a desire to raise awareness for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Jim knew this was the perfect record to unite his passions. As such, he piloted his first fixed-wing at 5:30 on the morning of his attempt, and landed his final plane at 6:17 that night, each flight ascending at least 2,000 ft (609 m). Jim might've run out of planes to fly if he had used his full 24 hour alottment!

Record: 481

Holder: Louis Palmer (Switzerland) as organizer

Location: Stuttgart, Germany

That's not all: The parade route organized by Palmer ran for 3.4 km (2.1 mi) around Stuttgart, before all the cars parked in the formation above, spelling out "Electric Car World Record Stuttgart 2014." The attempt kicked off the fourth annual WAVE, an electric-car rally in which Palmer led 75 EVs on an 8-day expedition to raise awareness for the use of electric transporation.
