Dr. Evil would be proud. Daniel Black used his laaaser beams to help win last week's Fan Choice, outshining his competitors with 43.22% of the vote secured with his successful record for the most balloons burst by laser in one minute.

It was a record 18 months in the making for Daniel, who burst 32 balloons with a hyper-powered beam that he designed and built himself from scratch, and now he can enjoy the benefits of success.

Every Friday here, we pick five records recently approved by our expert Records Management Team. We'll give you a little background on each and then ask you to vote for your favorite. The winners from each week, like Daniel, will be entered into an end-of-year bracket to determine the Fan Choice record of the year.

This week's list of nominees vying for your vote includes an influential lesson plan in Africa and a long time spent at an amusement park, but first, what if Rocky Balboa had just kept running?

Boxer marathon.jpg

Record: 1 hr 53 min 6 sec

Holder: Gregg Curtis (UK)

Location: Fleet Half Marathon in Fleet, Hampshire, UK

That's not all: Um, what happens when you need to grab a water bottle? That's exactly the challenge of this record, in which Gregg required the help of his friends to run alongside him and help with squirting water and keeping pace. It was required for Gregg to not remove his gloves or headgear at any time, which also makes us wonder -- what happens if he has an itch to scratch on the back of his head?

Record: 497 participants

Holder: Dr. Nyarai Flora Chigwedere (UK and Zimbabwe)

Location: Harare, Mashonaland Central, Zimbabwe

That's not all: With the help of Aquafresh GSK, Dr. Nyarai took 1,000 toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes to stress the importance of proper oral hygiene to the children of her native Zimbabwe. Having studied dentistry and now living in England, Dr. Nyarai saw the record as an opportunity to raise awareness of dental health among the children of lesser developed nations.

Record: 6.06 km (3.76 mi)

Holder: CAJ Halverde (Germany)

Location: Halverde, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

Well, the record attempt took place as part of the celebrations commemorating Halverde's 825th anniversary. And it's a popular tradition in the region to give men a long line of socks to display all around their house for their 25th birthday. Add 800 years, and Halverde had reason to celebrate with more socks then anyone ever!

That's not all: An avid fan of the park, Sam decided he wanted to challenge himself to the next level beyond just visiting in his spare time. And so he rode the famous "Pirate Boat" for 50 hours exactly, both during the park's operating hours and afterward. You can see him sitting next to the lion mascot above. Sam also used the attempt to raise funds and awareness for ALTA, a charity supported by Bellewaerde for the endangerment of amur leopards and tigers.
