America is full of fun, unofficial holidays to give us a reason to basically celebrate anything.

It's also a country full of tall tales and a lingering sense of our original frontier spirit.

None of those tales is larger than that of Paul Bunyan. And, wouldn't you know it, we have a day to celebrate him too.

Saturday is Paul Bunyan Day and, for those unaware of the American and Canadian folk hero, you can get educated here. But for a quick crash course, Paul Bunyan was basically a roaming giant who toured the American countryside way back when with his trusty Babe the Blue Ox. Their travels have been hailed as being responsible for the creation of everything from the Grand Canyon to the Great Lakes.

As a thank you, we figured Ol' Paul has a difficult time shopping for clothes, even at your standard Big-and-Tall department store. And so, what with our vast collection of the biggest and largest, we thought we'd outfit Mr. Bunyan with a record-breaking wardrobe, straight from head to toe.

LARGEST KNITTED HAT

Largest knitted hat.jpg

Having spent most of his time in the cold, wooded areas of the northern part of the U.S., a warm hat is a must for Paul Bunyan. For that we have t he largest knitted hat, measuring 6.90 m (22 ft 7 in) in height and 15.05 m (49 ft 4 in) in circumference. Created by volunteers from all over Europe, the hat was assembled and presented in Puchheim, Germany, on Oct. 5, 2008, after 3,000 work hours.

LARGEST BUTTON DOWN SHIRT

The one thing almost as ubiquitous to the Paul Bunyan image as Babe and his ax is a trusty flannel shirt. Well, to give him another option, we present the largest button down shirt, which was 65.39 m (214 ft 6 in) long, with a chest of 52.72 m (172 ft 11 in) and sleeves of 23.98 x 5.64 m (78 ft 8 in x 51 ft 3 in). It was made by Walbusch of blue poplin and polyester, and measured at the LTU-Arena in Düsseldorf, Germany, on June 25, 2009.

LARGEST JEANS

What kind of lumberjack wouldn't want a good, sturdy pair of jeans to roam the woods in? The largest pair ever measured 50.10 m (164 ft 4 in) tall, 36 m (118 ft 1 in) wide and weighed 1 tonne. They were created by Larbi Bouqamha and students from Institut Arabe de la Mode with an unveiling in Tunis, Tunisia, on May 23, 2009. And just in case Paul hits the dinner table a little too often in the cold winters, these have a waist measuring 36 m (118 ft 1 in).

LARGEST SOCKS

Need to keep the feet warm. This pair of long nylon socks, measuring 13.72 metres (45 ft) from top to toe and 3.05 metres (10 ft) wide, were constructed by Michael Roy Layne in October 1986 and hung outside city hall in Boston. They were made to celebrate the Red Sox winning the American League pennant and making the World Series. Paul Bunyan and baseball - no more American combination.

LARGEST CLOGS

We know these aren't the typical boots he's used to and maybe not the most practical footwear choice, but believe it or not, this is the only large-shoe record in which both shoes were constructed instead of just a single. So, enjoy a little European flavor, Paul! The largest clogs measured 3.04 m (9 ft 11 in) long, 1.08 m (3 ft 6 in) wide and 1.10 m (3 ft 7 in) tall and were created by Peter de Koning in Halsteren, Neterlands, in October 2012.

LARGEST ONESIE

Even giants need sleep. And for that, we provide this warm and comfortable number. The largest onesie measured 10.08 m (33.07 ft) in length and 3.59 m (11.78 ft) in width and was created by Cooneen By Design. They displayed and measured it in Leeds, UK, on Nov. 12, 2013. The final product weighed a hefty 24.52 kg (54 lb).

So there you have it! A fully formed outfit for a day in the life of a giant, roaming and shaping the countryside as he goes.
