Beyoncé last night played the opening date of her sell-out Mrs Carter Show World Tour in Serbia.

The 31 year-old 'R'n'B star showcased tracks from her new album Mrs Carter, as well as multiple costum changes during the gig at the Kombank Arena in the nation's capital, Belgrade.

The "breathing, cries and coos" of Blue Ivy Carter, the daughter of Beyoncé and husband Jay-Z (both USA), appeared on the track "Glory", credited to Jay-Z featuring B.I.C., which debuted on the US R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart just days after Blue Ivy's birth on 7 January 2012, making her the youngest chart entrant.

Tom Cruise has signed up as the lead in a new sci-fi film called Yukikaze.

The film is an adaptation of the Yukikaze novels by Japanese author Chohel Kamayashi, which were previously made into a series of five direct-to-video anime movies that came out between 2002 and 2005.

Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi aka Spirited Away (Japan, 2001) was the first anime film to win an Oscar. Directed by it won the Academy Award, for Best Animated Feature, when it took the prize during the Academy Award ceremony at the Kodak Theater, Los Angeles, California, USA, on 23 March 2003.

Next, to the world of precious metals, where gold prices have suffered their sharpest fall since the 1980s.

The price of gold plunged $140.30 to $1,361.10 an ounce, a decline of 9%. The metal has dropped $200 an ounce, or nearly 13%, in the last two trading days. It's the lowest price since February 2011.

The United States Treasury had approximately 262 million fine ounces of gold during 1996, equivalent to $100 billion (£65 billion) at the June 1996 price of $382 (£249) per fine oz, setting a world record for the largest gold reserves.

Rugby star Jamie Roberts, who helped Wales to a Six Nations triumph earlier this year, has even more to celebrate after qualifying as doctor.

Dr Roberts, as he will no doubt enjoy being referred to, received his final medical exam results on Monday, confirming he had passed with flying colours following eight years of study.

The 26-year-old, who studied at Cardiff University, will graduate in the summer before heading off to join his new club Racing Metro in Paris.

Dr Roberts isn't the only Cardiff University student to have made it into the sporting history books.

The longest game of women's lacrosse lasted 9 hr 15 min between Cardiff University Lacrosse Club and Cardiff University Lacrosse Club Alumni (both UK) at Llanrumney Sports Field, Cardiff, United Kingdom, in April 2009.
