The title for the longest line of fanfare trumpeters was broken this week by a group of 91 trumpeters at Wellington Barracks, adjacent to Buckingham Palace.

The successful record attempt was staged by Victoria Business Improvement District (VBID) to mark the run-up to the Queen's upcoming Diamond Jubilee and also formed part of World Record London.

Decked in full ceremonial uniform, the line was made up of seven different military units.

The trumpeters played the popular piece Wedding Fanfare.

"In a year of unique events to mark the Diamond Jubilee, this world record bid promises to be of lasting significance," said Westminster City Council's deputy cabinet member for business Cllr Cameron Thompson, "It's a fantastic and highly original way for this part of central London, with its very close Royal connections, to celebrate Her Majesty's six decades on the throne."

The record attempt was organised as part of World Record London, a calendar of record-breaking events taking place in the run-up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

So far the project has overseen successful record attempts for the longest curtsey relay and the longest marathon hug, with future events set to include the Queen's Diamond Jubilee River Pageant on Sunday 3 June which hopes to break the record for the Largest parade of boats.
