Guinness World Records would like to confirm that it is in conversation with Chandra Bahadur Dangi after he approached us with regard to the world's shortest man title.

We intend to travel to Mr Dangi's village in Nepal to officially measure him and are currently making provisions for medical professionals to assist us in the verification.

Mr Dangi, who is said to be aged 72, is claimed to measure 56 centimetres (22 inches) tall.

We cannot confirm Mr Dangi's height until formal measurements have been taken and verified by Guinness World Records officials, but we hope to undertake the verification in the next few weeks.

The current holder for the world's shortest man - living is Junrey Balawing (Philippines, born 12 June 1993) who measures 59.93 cm (23.5 in) tall, while the shortest woman title is currently held by Jyoti Amge (Nagpur, India, born 16 Dec 1993) who measures just 62.8 cm tall (24.7 in).

The shortest adult human to ever have their age and height verified by Guinness World Records was Gul Mohammed, (New Delhi, India, 1957-1997) who measured 57 cm (22.5 in).
