It's almost that time of year again! GWR Day, a global celebration of all things superlative this year takes place on November 17.

The annual event sees thousands of people all over the world attempt to secure a prestigious Guinness World Records title during a 24 hour period.

More than 200,000 people took part in last year's GWR Day, with hundreds of records being broken, as well as hundreds of thousands of pounds being raised for charities associated to record attempts.

Notable records smashed last year included a mass-show of muscle as more than 1,000 people made a grab for the title of largest tug-of-war tournament in the Netherlands, 90-year-old Thomas Lackey's successful attempt to become the oldest wing walker with a flight across the English Channel, and 426 pooches taking part in an attempt at the record for the most dogs in costumed dress in Florida, USA.

This year's GWR Day is shaping up to be even more spectacular, with 50,000 people expected to take part in the world's largest martial arts display in Yongnian County, China and the largest ever gathering of leprechauns set to take place outside Grand Canal in Dublin being just two of the many record attempts confirmed to take place on the day.

Any records set on Guinness World Records day are short-listed for inclusion in next year's edition of the book and you too can be part of the global celebration.

Talking ahead of GWR Day, Editor-in-Chief of Guinness World Records Craig Glenday said: "You don't have to be a stuntman or daredevil to take part in Guinness World Records Day - anyone with a record-worthy party trick or talent can join in the fun. That's the point of the day - to celebrate the joy of record-breaking and have a go at that record you've always wanted to attempt. And if we help raise a lot of money for charity along the way, so much the better!"
