It's almost that time of year again! GWR Day, a global celebration of all things superlative this year takes place on November 17.

The annual event sees thousands of people all over the world attempt to secure a prestigious Guinness World Records title during a 24 hour period.

More than 300,000 people took part in last year's GWR Day, with hundreds of records being broken, as well as hundreds of thousands of pounds being raised for charities associated to record attempts.

This year's GWR Day is shaping up to be even more spectacular, with the largest ever gathering of leprechauns set to place outside the Grand Canal in Dublin and an attempt at the largest human star in Canada being just two of the many bids for new world records confirmed to take place on the day.

Flying the flag for Britain is London-based artist Joe Hill who is attempting to bring all the world records for 3D art back to the UK - where 3D art was first invented.

Joe's colossal artwork will measure more than 1,000m² and Joe hopes it will be enough to secure titles for Largest 3D painting and Longest 3D painting.

Joe's handy work will be on show at West India Quay in London's Docklands, which will also be the scene of an attempt to set a new record for the Most people in a single pair of pants by fair-trade organisation Pants to Poverty.

They hope to encourage more than 50 commuters to strip to their smalls and cram themselves into the over-sized item of underwear to raise awareness of ethical working practices.

Also at the same location on the day will be the masterminds behind the world's Fastest toilet, the Fastest mobility scooter and the world's Smallest roadworthy car.

These Guinness World Records holders will come together for the first-time ever to showcase their speed and daring in a Race of the British Inventors.

Across the globe countries will be joining the spirit of Guinness World Records Day with records such as the Largest gathering of ABBA Impersonators in Australia, the Longest chocolate bar in Italy and attempts at the Largest rice cracker and Largest photo mosaic in Japan.

The USA is set to host the world's Largest Hula Hoop Workout attempted by Florida's Longleaf Elementary School.

In California, hundreds of groovers and shakers will line up for the Largest Soul Train Dance, while in South Dakota Raul Meza will attempt to break the record for theMost Martial Arts Kicks in One Minute.

Wim Hof, better known as 'The Iceman', will once again attempt to break his record for Full Body Ice Contact Endurance by sitting in a vat of ice for over 2 hours, as Isaac Louie aka 'Louie Foxx' goes for a slightly more effervescent bid with the Most Bounces of a Soap Bubble.

Other record attempts in the U.S. include a handful of mass participation records beginning with the return of the Most People Sport Stacking (multiple venues) as thousands of schools vie to earn their spot in the record book.

German's are feeling aquatic with attempts for the Greatest distance water slide riding in four hours and the Longest underwater walk by an individual in 24 hours, while France will have the Largest Rag doll.

Meanwhile, the Netherlands will host the Largest Zumba class as well as the Largest Macarena dance.

Any records set on Guinness World Records day are short-listed for inclusion in next year's edition of the book and you too can be part of the global celebration. To find out how to apply to set a record click here.

Talking ahead of GWR Day, Editor-in-Chief of Guinness World Records Craig Glenday said: "You don't need to have a unique talent or possess super skills to take part in a world record attempt. That's the spirit of Guinness World Records Day - getting involved and having some fun. There are so many record attempts going on around the world on this one day that people won't have to look far for some first-hand record breaking excitement."
