3, 2, 1, Go: Be a Record Breaker!!
So you've won your place through the ballot, you’re supporting a charity, you’re training for the big day, now be a record breaker!
Guinness World Records officially partnered with the Flora London Marathon in 2007 and it was a fantastic experience for all of those who took part and became record breakers! (Click here to read last year's story)
Breaking a record during your run is a great way of getting more sponsorship and awareness for your charity. Ian Sharman who broke the record for Fastest marathon dressed as Elvis (2 hours 57 minutes) said “The crowd support for running in costume blew me away. The combination of going for a record and the deafening roar of the crowd made for an unforgettable race – I highly recommend it!”
Other new record breakers from the last marathon were Sally Orange who flew her way to the record Fastest female to run the marathon in a superhero costume (4 hours and 8 minutes), Gary Speakman heroically completed the record Fastest marathon in a fireman's uniform (7 hours and 10 minutes), Susie Hewer decided to knit a scarf in between and set the record Longest scarf knitted whilst running a marathon (1m 20cm.) and Oliver Holland and his 16 companions set the record for Most linked runners to complete a marathon (5 hours 25 minutes).
These records and many more are just some of the attempts you could make!
