WOULD YOU LIKE TO GO LARGE SIR?
Last week Guinness World Records was out and about once again and this time we were in
Connecticut, USA at the largest casino in the world,
Foxwoods Resort Casino, for a culinary effort
on the part of Fuddruckers Restaurant.
Fuddruckers is a restaurant chain which is celebrating its 25th anniversary and to celebrate
in style they decided to attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the Largest
Commercially Available Hamburger held by Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub and weighing in at an
impressive 9 lb.
So how big would Fuddruckers go? 10 lb (4.5 kg)? 20 lb (9 kg)? No, to coincide with their 25
years of existence they were going to make a hamburger weighing at least 25 lb (11 kg)!
As we arrived Chefs Mark Collins and Scott Ferguson were busy getting all the ingredients ready
which included 33 lb (15 kg) of ground beef, 5 lb (2 kg) of bread dough and half a lettuce!
Seven hours later the hamburger was unveiled and took two people to carry so that it could be
officially verified. As the staff nervously looked on we read the scales…29 lb 9 oz (13 kg)!
A new Guinness World Record!! Measuring 18 in (47 cm) wide and 8 in (22 cm)
tall no one could argue that this was truly the world’s largest commercially available hamburger
– congratulations! For those interested in stepping up to the plate and wishing to order this
behemoth it will be on the menu at Foxwoods from May to August 2006.
But what next? We had reports that the previous holders, Denny’s, are now planning to get
their record back. Will it be 30 lb (14 kg), 50 lb (23 kg)….100 lb (45 kg)?? Stay tuned
as we find out how this Battle of the Burgers plays out!
