The Dog Days of Summer - Top Canine Record Holders!
These humid summer days of July and August in the Northern Hemisphere are often referred to as the "Dog Days of Summer" - which makes it the perfect time to look back at some of our greatest canine record holders!
The highest jump cleared by a dog is 172.7 cm (68 in), achieved by Cinderella May, a Holly Grey, owned by Kate Long and Kathleen Conroy of Miami, Florida, USA. This is within a metre of the human high jump record!
The longest wave surfed by a dog (open water) is 107.2 meters (351.7 ft), achieved by Abbie Girl at Ocean Beach Dog Beach, in San Diego, California, USA. Abbie, owned by Michael Uy, is an Australian Kelpie.
A Real Mouthful
The most tennis balls held in the mouth by a dog at one time is five, by Augie, a golden retriever owned by the Miller family in Dallas, Texas, USA. Sadly Augie had to be put to sleep in 2004 due to a tumour.
Edward Watson’s (USA) dog Rose can catch seven flying discs, thrown one at a time, and hold them all in her mouth at once!
Tillman Bulldog: Pro Skater
Tillman the English Bulldog covered a 100-m stretch of level car park in a time of 19.678 seconds during X Games XV in Los Angeles, California, USA - the fastest time for a dog to do so.
