GWR DAY - UK - LONDON
Fountains of Fun
It’s not unusual at certain times of the year – and especially after the pubs have closed – to see people swimming in the fountains of London’s Trafalgar Square. But on the morning of November 9 four synchronized swimmers took to the chilly waters under Nelson’s Column to compete for a new world record for the most ballet leg switches performed in one minute.
Kathryn Pounder and Rebecca MacEnri, of the Aquabatix synchronized swimming team managed to perform 71 leg switches in just one minute, no mean feat considering just how cold the water in the fountains is.
Anyone hoping to emulate this attempt is advised to bring along a towel.
