GWR DAY - CHINA - CHENGDU
What Did He Say?
On November 1, 2006 the Chinese state television company CCTV staged the world's largest Chinese whisper with the aid of the members of the Cycling Club of Chengdu City Sports Association for the Elderly. Beginning with a sentence which translates into English as “All the chilli in the world is in fear of Sichuan people” (who are notorious chilli eaters), the cyclists whispered one to another down a long chain.
Along the way the sentence morphed into "Chilli chicken" and "Chilli I don't understand" until it reached the final person in the chain. The last link then called out what she had heard – "Wish you healthy!" – to tremendous applause and laughter.
In total, the whisper had passed between 1,083 people – ranging in age from 50 to over 80 years' old – beating the previous record, which was 814.
