In 2012, professional services firm PwC US launched "Earn Your Future," a five-year commitment to youth education with a focus on financial literacy. The corporate responsibility campaign aimed to utilize the skills of PwC partners, principals and staff to improve financial education among young Americans by working with schools and youth organizations. PwC is committed to contributing volunteer service hours and, as part of the “Earn Your Future” effort, wanted a memorable, unique event that would excite and engage PwC people, as well as impact youth.
PwC US approached Guinness World Records to help create an interactive event for schools across Southern California, Arizona and Nevada that aligned with the firm's commitment to youth education and financial literacy. Guinness World Records created a first-of-its-kind record category for the program: theLargest financial literacy lesson (multiple venues). The solution encouraged staff participation, raised awareness about PwC's “Earn Your Future” commitment and connected PwCpartners, principals and staff in a shared purpose. PwC participants became more comfortable educating students and more engaged with the local communities and organizations, including Junior Achievement and Playworks, who collaborated with PwC on the event.
"We know PwC has an important part to play in helping to develop the next generation of responsible leaders, and it's encouraging when we spend time with so many eager and talented young boys and girls talking about money management and financial responsibility. Through our 'Earn Your Future' events today, we not only set a world record - we made a real impact."
