A new Guinness World Record was set in Doha, Qatar, on 28 November 2008. 2,727 people participated in breaking the record for the most number of people running 100 meters carrying a baton in a 24 hour relay.
The “Walk for Life” club, which was sponsored by Qatar gas, organized the record attempt in the Al Khor community. The relay started at 7:30 am on 27 November and finished at 7:30 am on 28 November 2008.
The record attempt was attended by Talal Omar, an adjudicator from Guinness World Records, who confirmed the new world record at the end of the event. The previous record stood at 1,848 people and was set in Singapore in March 2008.
Local children from schools in the Al Khor community started the record attempt and were followed by Qatar gas employees and their families and were also joined by local residents.
Members of the “Walk for Life” club who organized this record attempt hoped that by breaking this record they promote a healthy life style for the residents of the Al Khor community.
