Pillow

On Friday 3 October 2008, Guinness World Records adjudicator, Kaoru Ishikawa visited Oudenaarde, a beautiful town of East Flanders in Belgium to witness the Guinness World Record for the largest pillow.

The pillow was made by AAROVA who provides a workplace for disabled people.  So, what made them decide to make a large pillow?  Well, they celebrated their 15th anniversary this year and decided to make a pillow measuring 225 m² (2,421 ft 8 in²) to commemorate this event!

All of their 280 workers participated in making the pillow, and it took them 8 days to complete it.  Sewing a 14 meter (45 ft 11 in) zipper for the case was in itself a difficult task as they had to begin again it if it got broken halfway through!

The final product measured an impressive 15 x 15 m (49 ft 2 in x 49 ft 2 in).  There was a big smile all around the factory when Ms Ishikawa announced the new Guinness World Record live on the radio and presented a certificate to the representatives of the workers.
