Most wheat harvested in eight hours

Combine harvesting

On 1 August 2008, Kristian Teufel, Guinness World Records adjudicator travelled to Sangerhausen near Halle, Germany, to adjudicate a record attempt for the most wheat harvested in 8 hours by a team.

A team from New Holland Agriculture sought to break the existing record with their new prototype CR9090 combine harvester.

The day chosen turned out to be a beautiful day and around 10 in the morning, the machine piloted by two farmers onboard began the harvest. They were followed by two tractors with wagons which took turns in taking the harvested wheat to the silo.

The tractors were then weighed first with their wagons full and then again empty each time they came to unload to the silo. In this way, the amount of wheat harvested could be determined most accurately.

The end result was a whooping 451.2 tons (94,725.73 lbs) of wheat in 8 hours, a result even more impressive considering that unlike the previous record holder, who used a “stripper”, which only takes the grain from the straw and leaves the straw standing,  the new record was achieved using a regular header cuts all the straw.
