Largest Gazpacho

gazpacho

On 2 August 2008, Guinness World Records adjudicator, Erica Holmes–Attivor, visited Spain to adjudicate the record for the largest gazpacho made by the municipality of Campohermoso in Nijar, Almería, Spain. This was not the first time the province of Almería had attempted to break a Guinness World Record. The largest electronic darts tournament was held in Aguadulce in 2007 and the youngest lion tamer is a resident of El Ejido.

On the day of the record attempt there were over 40 people working hard, slicing and dicing tomatoes, cucumber, green peppers, onions and garlic. They then used industrial size hand blenders to blend the ingredients together. It was clear to see that this was no ordinary gazpacho. Apart from its record-breaking size, the traditional Spanish soup was made with ecologically cultivated products, which means no pesticides were used.

There was plenty of excitement as the first bucket of gazpacho was poured into the specially built container. It took over 5 hours to prepare this Spanish delicacy. Once the last of the gazpacho was poured into the container, Erica was able to confirm that the container was holding a massive 4520 litres of gazpacho; a new Guinness World Record!
