Largest Kuchipudi dance

Kuchipudi

June 21 – Cupertino, California

In rainbow-colored traditional Indian costumes and elaborate makeup, 328 Kuchipudi dancers – spanning 5 generations – helped nonprofit, Indian culture group SiliconAndhra musically step their way into a new “largest Kuchipudi dance” record.

Incorporating complex choreography with assorted facial expressions, the Kuchipudi is a centuries old classical dance form that originated in a small southern Indian village Kuchipudi, in Andhra Pradesh.

SiliconAndhra is a nonprofit, non-political, non-religious, cultural and community organization based in the Silicon Valley (Bay Area), California. The function of the organization is to serve the community through cultural and charity work. The organization seeks to promote, preserve and spread Telugu culture (“samskriti”), literature (“saahityam”) and traditions (“sampradayam”) of the Andhra Pradesh region of India and strives to instill the value system in the community.

SiliconAndhra flew the dancers in from locations around the world, including: India, Russia, Canada, and the United States.

In 2010, the organization seeks to better their current record during a visit to India, where they plan to host their next International Kuchipudi Convention.
