Longest line of pizzas

Longest line of pizzas

On 7 June 2008, Guinness World Records representative Pamela Schoenhofer went to the Italian hub of Leichhardt in Sydney, Australia, to verify the record for the longest line of pizzas.

The organisers of the attempt found that they needed to put in some extra effort and make a few extra pizzas as this record had only recently been broken a few weeks ago!

Twenty-five chefs used 500kg (1102.3 lbs) of flour, 250 litres (54.99 gal) of tomato sauce and 350kg (771.62 lbs) of mozzarella cheese to make the line stretch to 221 m (725 ft 1 in), breaking the previous record by only 1m (3 ft 3 in)! The delicious smell emanating from the pizzas made it difficult for all the attendants to hold themselves back and not break the line by eating one of the pizzas!

The event was well organised and Costa Cruises invited an Italian MC and provided Italian music for the entertainment. The only setback occurred when the trundle wheel broke at the moment of measuring. Once a replacement trundle wheel was found and measurements confirmed, the record was announced as broken.

The pizzas where then donated to the food rescue organisation, OzHarvest, to feed Sydney's homeless and disadvantaged. All the major papers and TV stations were present which gave Costa Cruises, the sponsor of the event some good coverage. Viva la Pizza!
