New record for Sumo Squats

Dr Thienna Ho

It's official, the world's greatest Super Sumo Squatter is Dr Thienna Ho (Vietnam) who achieved an incredible 5,135 of these muscle-burners in just one hour!

Dr Thienna's successful attempt was held at San Francisco State University, California, USA on 16 December 2007,and monitored under the watchful eye of Guinness World Records Adjudicator, Carlos Martinez, who had flown in from London, UK to witness the impressive feat.

Dr Thienna's squat-mission began with three, 30-45-minute training sessions per week, in which she did between 500-1000 repetitions each time – a great grounding to achieve 5,135 in an hour, at a rate of 85 sumo squats per minute! Her ambition to achieve such a great record was driven by both personal and professional goals, that is, her personal passion for health and fitness and her professional aim to she raise awareness of women's health issues: "Squat exercises are typically associated with men. My hope is that women will embrace this exercise as it targets many common problem areas that typically concern them," Thienna explained.

Well done Dr Thienna!
