Wave for Wales 2007 - A Great Success!
Margam Country Park in South Wales was a day of fun and record attempts on Sunday 24th June.
Organised by local radio station The Wave and Swansea Sound in aid of local charities Shelter
Cymru and the RNLI Train One Save Many Appeal the day turned into a huge success.
The event was sponsored by the local Community Road Safety Partnership and supported by gaming
giant Xbox 360 who turned the castle into Xbox Castle for the day.
Despite poor weather in the locality the sun shone on a very small part of South Wales and over
4,000 turned up to try and break 7 Official Guinness World Records.
By the end of the day an amazing 4 World Records had been broken.
The largest custard pie fight included 70 people who threw over 300 litres of custard at each
other in 3 very messy minutes.
That was followed by most people bouncing on space hoppers which has been especially designed
for the day. The new record is now 735.
Four generations of one family were included in the 1752 people who took part in the world’s
biggest locomotion dance.
The proposed water balloon fight failed when the two teams got rather excited and started before
the official count could take place – but it didn’t seem to detract from the day!
The final record broken was an amazing feat by Craig De Vulgt from Life Health and Fitness Club
who completed an amazing 70 squat thrusts in a minute.
Thousands of pounds will be was raised for the two charities. Andrew Jones from Shelter Cymru
said "To achieve 4 world records was an amazing result. The Wave and Swansea Sound have been
absolutely brilliant and we would all like to say a very big thank you to Xbox and all the other
sponsors. The representatives from Guinness World Records were brilliant all day – there to ensure
we stuck to all the rules but they greatly added to the atmosphere as the crowds waited for their
decisions to see if the records had been broken."
